One of my favorite things about David Brooks is his take on “The Weavers” (which I consider myself): According to Brooks, Weavers are the people who bring communities together through relationships, trust, kindness, and a commitment to helping others.
They're not necessarily elected officials, wealthy philanthropists, or people with impressive titles.
They're the people who organize neighborhood gatherings, check on elderly neighbors, mentor young people, welcome newcomers, volunteer, and make sure nobody feels invisible.
In an interview about his Weave initiative, Brooks explains that these people come from all walks of life, but share something important:
“Whatever they do, they lead with love.”
Weave: The Social Fabric Project
They understand that a strong community isn't built simply through institutions, economic development, or infrastructure. It's built through the everyday relationships between people.
