WHAT TO EXPECT AT A BRUNO PRESS WORKSHOP
These workshops get you working with your hands and having a damn good time doing it. Whether you're into inky fingers, old-school presses, or just want to make something rad with a group of cool people, we've got a spot for you.
Why should I take this class?
Reduction block printing will have you thinking about image-making in new, mind-bending ways. And there’s nobody better to show you this cool linoleum block carving technique than me— Mary Bruno of Bruno Press! No experience needed and lunch is included!
What will I learn?
You’ll spend 4 hours transferring, carving and printing a multicolor image from one linoleum block— my specialty. Through a series of progressive carvings and press runs, the image emerges while the actual linoleum block is destroyed. In a single four-hour session, I will show you how to:
Choose appropriate images for reduction linocut printing
Transfer the image onto the linoleum block
Select the right carving tools and wield them properly
Visualize the many stages your print will go through as your reduction cut progresses
Who should take this class?
This class is for any person who is interested in creating unique hand-carved images and prints. As long as you are 12 years or older, you can do this— no prior experience necessary! Wear something you can get inky, bring something to drink, and be brave to try something new!
“I loved the entire experience! The step-by-step instructions—from the very beginning all the way through—and the creation of a "thing" that I could hold, touch and share! We were invited to work as we needed to within the framework of instruction, which allowed our individuality to come through, but in a way that assured success. The opportunity to work in this way, to use the press, to create something beautiful and unexpected was a gift! My favorite part, however, was the camaraderie with the wonderful guests around the table, made possible within the comfortable, easy-going and low-stress vibe of Mary! Mistakes are ok! Risks are good! And, above all, play is essential! Mary took all of the pressure and stress out of learning a new creative practice. I would totally do this again! Thank you Mary!”

“I recently took the Reduction Linoleum Print Class at Bruno Press with my husband and step daughter, and it was an amazing experience. Led by Mary Bruno, the class was not only a fantastic introduction to printmaking but also a wonderful bonding opportunity for our family. Mary’s teaching style is warm and encouraging, making us feel like artists from the start. By the end of the class, we were all amazed at what we had created and felt much more confident in our artistic abilities. What made the class extra special was seeing my step daughter truly shine. Mary created an environment where she could express herself and feel proud of her artwork at every step. It was so rewarding to see her embrace the creative process. This class was more than just learning a new skill—it was a chance to connect as a family while exploring our creative sides. I highly recommend this class for anyone looking to foster creativity and create lasting memories with their loved ones.”
— BriAnne“We went to a workshop for a date. I love art and am artistic, but my husband…well, let’s just say that creating art isn’t something we regularly do together. Yet, not only did we both have a blast, BOTH of us created frame-worthy art that we were proud of. Mary enthusiastically coached us newbies throughout the whole process. We both are looking forward to coming again!”
